Today the ground hog saw his shadow so I guess we have 6 more weeks of winter. I was curious as to how this little tradition got started.
The tradition started in Germany and they used a badger, but when it was brought to Pennsylvania they replaced the badger with a ground hog.The official first Ground Hog's Day was on February 2nd 1886. For more of the history click here - ground hog.

No every told me how long winter will be if the ground hog doesn't see his shadow
I sure wouldn't want to get near a badger. They can be real mean. But those groundhogs are sure cute.
